As those of you listening to the podcast may know, for my upcoming Adventure Con trip, I was planning on wearing three costumes. Hurley from Lost, a Jedi Knight, and a Battlestar Galactica officer. Well, I’m sorry to announce that only two of those costumes will be ready in time. The Battlestar Galactica uniform has been put on hold after we had serious issues coloring it. After four bottles of dye, the majority of the shirt was still far too light to match the show. Only the pocket and collar, both additions made of different fabric then the rest of the shirt, got to where I needed them. I haven’t yet ruled out the possibility of Cylon sabotage.
Am I disappointed? Absolutely. I was really looking forward to that uniform. (The rank pins I got are still so cool!) But am I giving up? Hell no. Let’s just say that I already have one costume planned for Mid Ohio Con come November. BsGU Mark II will begin pretty much as soon as I get back from Tennessee. I’ll basically be doing exactly the same as I did with this one, except this time I’m going to make sure to get a chef outfit that’s made of more dye friendly fabric.
It’s not a complete disaster, however. For as simple as it is, I’ve really taken a liking to my Hurley costume. Even if no one there but my compatriots and myself know who I am, I think I’ll still be satisfied. I don’t know what it is about this outfit. Really, it amounts only to jeans and a t-shirt. (Both of which I’ve already decided will be entering my regular rotation after the con.) Without my flag, which I’m particularly proud of, you wouldn’t even know I’m in costume. Heck, a lot of people may just think I’m a normal guy who bought a really weird souvenir. Nevertheless, I’m really happy with it.
And, as long as I’m counting blessings, my new and improved Jedi belt is coming along quite fine, as well. This one is going to be a little more “custom” then my last (read: even less screen accurate.) and I think it’s going to look real sharp.
Yeah, I’m really looking forward to Adventure Con. I’m also looking forward taking another shot at the BsG costume. By the time I’m finished with it, I know it’ll look awesome.
