Politics, Cartoons, and Sci-Fi

Watching the Pennsylvania Primary results last night, I started to realize some interesting patterns in the candidates…

Candidates

Cartoon Cereal Spokesperson

Sci-Fi Icon

John McCain

Cap’n Crunch

Colonel Tigh

Battlestar Galactica (Modern)

Barack Obama

Count Chocula

Lando Calrissian

Star Wars

Hilary Clinton

Boo Berry

Bonus: Bill is Franken Berry

Captain Janeway

Star Trek Voyager

I’ll admit, the Obama connections are a bit of a stretch, but the others are spot on if I may so so myself. I mean… McCain IS Colonel Tigh! It’s just … eerie.

So, is there a stalking merit badge now or what?

For me, one of the best parts about earning the rank of Eagle in Boy Scouts was the fact that I never had to deal with the Boy Scouts again… Or so I thought.

Lately, I’ve been inundated with damn annoying letters and emails about some Eagle Scout registry some schmucks are putting together. They say they need me to verify my information. What I don’t get is this: They obviously have my name and address and I’m pretty sure stuff like troop and the date the rank was earned is kept on file. So, my question is, what else could they possibly need to know about me? And another thing: I don’t think the notes would bug me so much if they weren’t so damn persistent and accusatory. I just got an email with the words “THIRD NOTICE” emblazoned across the top like it’s a mortgage or something. Seriously, the letters I get from my bank when my paychecks bounce are less hostile then these guys.

I know, you’re probably saying: Well, why don’t you just call them then just to get them off your back? Well, at first it was because I really, really don’t care. Don’t get me wrong. Boy Scouts wasn’t all bad. It’s a great organization and most of my issues were personal. (Or, at least, they were unique to my troop as opposed to Scouts all together.) But I did have some issues, and as such I’d just as soon put it all behind me. In short, I’m just not that into it anymore. Secondly, these guys are really starting to piss me off. As soon as they started hounding me like I owe them money, I went on the defensive. I always strove to be trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, curious, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent (SEE! I still remember it, bitches!) but one thing I’ve always been is stubborn. And if I can get a certain scout master to sign me up for provisional summer camp, then I sure as hell can handle these clowns.

UPDATE: Just thought to do a google search. Seems I’m not the only one annoyed by these things. Seems like some are being fooled too. $114.94 hardly sounds legit to me. I smell scam! And if the BSA is supporting it, then they, too, have been dooped by the third party is doing this. (“Harris Connect, Inc” according to the official site.)

Hulk: Spider-man no more?!

I thought this was very weird. It’s a bit sad when you start ripping yourself off.

Alice by Jan Svankmajer

Hey, remember your childhood, the way it didn’t creep you out all the time…

Yeah, and then that happened…

I think I may be loosing my mind…

It’s no secret that I have a super easy/boring job. I get asked some times how I fill so much dead time. Mostly I just read or day dream. Today, in addition to reading. I had this song stuck in my head. (Don’t worry. You’re not getting Rickrolled. This is … much worse.)

New Who

Just downloaded the first episode of Doctor Who Series 4. (Or ’season 4′ to us ‘cross the pond folk.) Thank Ceiling Cat for high speed internet. The Sci-Fi Channel’s going to be showing “Voyage of the Damned” for the first time in about two weeks. VotD, btw, was this year’s Christmas episode. So, yeah, the wait for new Who kind of sucks, not to mention the fact that we butcher the episodes when they do get her.

I haven’t watched it yet, but I played it enough to make sure it was right and I noticed something. When I saw Voyage of the Damned, they had a new version of the theme song from what they had been using the previous three seasons and, at the time, I wondered if it was going to stick for the new season. Well, it did. I’m not complaining, though. I like the new version. The great thing about the Doctor Who theme song is that it can be done up in so many ways and still sound completely awesome.

WordPress Changes

Proof that I don’t post enough: WordPress has changed their layout fairly dramatically and it’s totally freaking me out. It’s pretty cool, but it’ll take me a while to get used to.

Say What?

Why is it that web sites dedicated to song lyrics always seem super seedy? I just looked up the lyrics to ‘Feel Good Inc.’ (Somehow, my understanding for that song actually went down after reading the lyrics.) and I went through three sites before I found one that wasn’t all ads for ringtones and such.

Gnarls Barkley- The Odd Couple

I just have to say, the new Gnarls Barkley album, the Odd Couple, is unbelievably good. I’ve listened to it almost exclusively for a couple of days now. I mean, I liked his last CD a lot, but I’m completely hooked on this one.
